5. I played clarinet in band grades 5-12. I was a member of the colorgard during marching season. I am a proud band geek.

6. I’ve never seen any of the following movies in their entirety: Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, 16 Candles, Pretty Woman, Breakfast Club. I have however seen Howard the Duck about 47 times.

And whoever else. (I don’t have that many bloggy friends)

Sigh.

You know, even though I was aware today was coming, it didn’t really bother me, or sink in that it’s been 7 years since douchebags attempted to get a gaggle of virgins delivered to their heavenly doorstep. I liked that I wasn’t really thinking about it.

Then this morning, when I turned on the tube to get the weather report – there it was, on every channel. Kind of exactly like the day it happened. I was in my car, on my way to class in St. Paul listening to the radio when it happened. Class was at 8:30. It started, but then halfway through – we were all told to go home. They were showing coverage in the little theater attached to the St. Paul Student Center. I sat down before walking to my car, watched the video of planes flying into the buildings and cried. I had to drive past downtown Minneapolis to get home, and the skyscrapers had never looked more different to me.

I’m torn. Part of me wishes I didn’t have to be reminded of all the sadness that occurred on this day. I am aware that it’s good that we remember. But, it’s such a bummer.

I know I’m only able to think this way because I didn’t know anyone that was affected by the shitty goings-on of 9/11/2001. I can’t imagine what getting through today is like for people that lost loved ones. But at the same time, wouldn’t they also not want to turn on the TV and have to relive it all over again?

My birthday is in a couple days. Every year since then, I just remember my birthday that year, and how insignificant it seemed. I was turning 21 – which is supposed to be an awesome day. My friends David and Angie and I went to see Jimmy Eat World and Hey Mercedes at First Avenue. We thought the show was going to be canceled because, well, pretty much everything was canceled following that Tuesday. But, it wasn’t. We went to the show. David bought me a gigantic Newcastle, which I held in my hands legally for the first time. I drank and sang along and had a good time. We got pizza at Pizza Luce after that. Bob Nanna (of Hey Merecedes/Braid fame) was there. He gave me a birthday hug. Given the circumstances, it was a pretty good birthday.

This year, I turn 28. I have no plans. This is the last year before birthdays will start to suck. (29 is basically 30 – so, yeah.) I’m just trying to focus myself on next weekend, when I walk 60 miles.

Sorry this post is kind of a downer. W. It’s 9/11. Deal.

Get to know him.

This looked interesting, so I’m doing it too.

EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HUSBAND

Interpreted by Mrs. Jenna

1. He’s sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen?
A Twins game, Family Guy, Seinfeld, occasionally House Hunters

2. You’re out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad?
If they let him – a combo of French and Ranch – otherwise, probably just plain Ranch.

3. What’s one food he doesn’t like?
Fish. He won’t eat ANY fish. He’s tried some that I’ve ordered, but he and fish don’t get along.

4. You go out to the bar. What does he order?
Summit EPA is his fav. But he’s really a lover of almost all beers.

5. Where did he go to high school?
WashBURN!

6. What size shoe does he wear?
10.5

7. If he was to collect anything, what would it be?
Vintage skateboard decks.

8. What is his favorite type of sandwich?
He used to always order a BMT from Subway, but he hates Subway now (I’m not quite sure why). But when he makes a sandwich for lunch – it’s a bologna and cheese sandwich.

9. What would this person eat every day if he could?
Pizza. No question about it. Domino’s to be exact. (I know, right?!)

10. What is his favorite cereal?
He doesn’t really eat cereal – but I think he really likes Lucky Charms.

11. What would he never wear?
Anything pink or extremely trendy.

12. What is his favorite sports team?
Minnesota Twins!!

13. Who will he vote for?
Obama!

14. Who is his best friend?
Uh – me. Duh.

15. What is something you do that he wishes you wouldn’t do?
Tuck him into bed so he can’t move.

16. How many states has he lived in?
Two, I believe.

17. What is his heritage?
Polish and something.

18. You bake him a cake for his birthday; what kind of cake?
Hmmm – probably Crazy Cake. Or if I could recreate it – Cheesecake Factory cheesecake.

19. Did he play sports in high school?
Hahahahaha. No. I’m pretty sure you had to not ditch classes to participate in high school sports. He skateboarded CONSTANTLY. And still does, occasionally – even at almost 33 years old. This is something that I just love (and admire) about him – and never would discourage. The things he can do on a skateboard amaze me.

20. What could he spend hours doing?
Staring lovingly into my eyes.

Wait. I mean, watering the lawn and drinking beer.

My comb is a jerk.

Category not so much

I’m not ashamed to admit that I have a few gray white hairs on my head. They’re mostly confined to the crown and are fewer than 10 in number.

On any given day, I usually only see one…if any. I don’t mind.

However, for whatever reason, I can see 5 of them in my part today. FIVE. They’ve given up on hiding. Maybe because my 28th birthday is a mere 8 days away.

Quit reminding me, mother nature. I’m well aware that you’re no longer on my side.

I hate days like these.

Category not so much, other people are morons

I’m fucking crabby and pissed at everything. Everyone I talk to today irritates the hell out of me.

I just had 5 days off of work and I already feel like I need a vacation.

I’m crabby because of my job. I won’t get into specifics since who knows who reads this thing, but I’m so frustrated with it that I just don’t know what do to anymore.

I feel like I’m being the typical woman, being crabby about something and just hoping that “the man in my life” will notice and ask “What can I do to make you happy?” and then listens and then actually does something to make things better. Although, it’s not like “the man in my life” isn’t already aware of the things that frustrate me. He just chooses to ignore them – and waits for someone else to take care of it.

Alright, enough about my job.

The fucking RNC is bugging me too. I hate to generalize, but I dislike most Republicans. I really dislike Sarah Palin. She sucks and gives women a bad name. Not to mention she reminds me of this lady on SNL.

There are Republicans EVERYWHERE in Minneapolis. I think that’s making me crabby too.

However, Jon Stewart makes me happy. Last night’s Daily Show was absolutely hilarious. I suggest you watch it. And watch it now.
