From work – a top 5 survey

Top 5 guilty pleasure bands, albums, or songs.

I’ll start with the worst and go from there.

1. “London Bridge” by Fergie. Let me start by saying I hate Fergie. HATE. When this song came out – I got pissed because it’s like, a near blatant rip-off of a Gwen Stefani song (yeah, she’s a guilty pleasure too, but I digress). But, after hearing the actual song – it’s catchy and I like the beat. *sigh* I still hate Fergie though, don’t get me wrong. I mean, really. She peed her pants on stage once and tried to blame it on sweat. Liar.

2. Any album by Braid. These guys were by favorite band from 15 until about the age of 19. I thought they were geniuses and the greatest indie rock band alive. When I listen now…I appreciate what I was thinking then. But, some of the songs are bad. I still listen, though. The husband can’t stand them. I think you had to “grow up with them” to really get it. Again – emo.

3. Justin Timberlake. His music is so good. No one can deny that. However, my superfan-ness is embarrassing, even to myself.

4. “Tom Sawyer” by Rush. I love Rush. Some people don’t. My goal is to some day sing “Tom Sawyer” karaoke. In “that” voice (a la Geddy Lee).

5. Amy Winehouse. She’s in a rough spot. People are dissing her because she’s too popular, an addict, and more than likely insane. But her albums are some of my favorite ones that I own. She’s got a kick ass voice and music style. I just hope she’s around long enough to make another album.

Freakin snow, part deux.

Category I am a moron, other people are morons

It snowed again yesterday. Traffic looked something like this for rush hour last night and this morning. “Well, Jenna – you’re lucky! You don’t have to commute on freeways – you take the bus on city streets!”

Wrong.

I left work around 4:30 last night, and walked the skyways to my bus stop on 7th & Hennepin. I waited for 10 minutes without seeing a 6 (my bus of choice), so, I took the first bus going my way (but not all the way) – a 12. We then proceeded to get stuck in traffic, making it take almost 20 minutes to get to 11th street. That’s right, 4 blocks in 20 minutes. RIDICULOUS. Everyone turns into asshole and/or bad drivers when it snows here. To make matters worse, some obese woman(?) stood near me in the rear of the bus, and she smelled as though she hadn’t showered in a month. And I’m not talking BO stink here – more like a rotten sweet smell. The thought right now is brining up bile as we speak. UGH. Anyway – I assumed we’d pass a 6 on the way into Uptown that I could hop on at the Transit Station to take me the 6 blocks more I needed to get home. And….nothing.

I waited, and then decided to start walking. While wearing these shoes. All I could think of was my cute boots sitting in my warm apartment that I had neglected to wear. Then I couldn’t help thinking about how wet my feet were and how canvas deck shoes aren’t meant for snow hiking. In any case – I walked the whole way home without seeing a 6 – so at least I sort of made the right choice.

But enough about the weather – book club last night was super fun. We decided to read this book first – Candy Girl, by Diablo Cody. The description:

Diablo Cody was twenty-four years old when she decided there had to be more to life than typing copy at an ad agency. On a whim, she signed up for amateur night at Minneapolis’s seedy Skyway Lounge. She didn’t win a prize that night, but she discovered that stripping delivered a rush she had never experienced before, and too many experiences to not write about it. While she didn’t fit the ordinary profile of a stripper—she had a supportive boyfriend, was equal parts brainpower and beauty, was from a good family, and was out to do a little soul searching—she soon immersed herself in this enticing life full-time.

Sounds fairly interesting. We decided on a light, quick read for this month since the holidays are coming up (not to mention I’m moving in a little over a week), so I should be able to handle it. I should buy it soon so I can read it before our next meeting in January.

And…back to work.

Category please and thank you

On December 10th, 10pm ET/PT, everyone and their mom should tune in to Anthony Bourdain’s holiday special on the Travel Channel, featuring none other than my favorite band, Queens of the Stone Age. Honestly, it will show one of the few reasons I adore these guys, including the fact that they seem like they’d be hilarious to hang out with. Also, Anthony Bourdain seems like a cool guy to hang out with too. He’s kind of an asshole, but that’s cool. :)

Freakin snow.

So, we got snow this weekend. Of course, as usual – about 4-6 inches less than what they forecasted. But it was annoying none the less. I can’t wait until we move and are no longer on a busy street. The plows must have come by about 40 times during the night on Saturday and woke me up everytime. Our car drove well though. First time out in the snow! Although I do miss the civic every once in a while, I didn’t this weekend.

Of course we didn’t get much done in the way of packing. I refuse to be unprepared when the time comes. I don’t want to throw things in boxes without organization and labeling. The hubs totally doesn’t believe in my form of packing. He prefers the “grab what you see and dump it in a box and figure it out later” technique. The thought makes my stomach turn. I guess I’ll have to be the smart one and start things myself.

All I got done this weekend was taking down the sheers and the curtain rods holding them from the bedroom, and also washed the curtains. That’s it. Our apartment is a PIT. It’s embarrassing. Neither of us care about keeping it clean anymore.

So, instead of packing yesterday, the hubs and I went and got lunch, and then went to Fleet Farm. If you’ve never been, it’s an awesome store. I probably like it more than most since my dad dragged me there every weekend growing up. It smells like tires – and I love that smell. :) ANYWAY, we each bought a new pair of winter boots – they were all on sale! I bought these. Yes – they’re Sorels, for those who know. I love them. I ALMOST wore them to work today, then realized I’d have to tote another pair of shoes with me and then changed my mind. I wore my ski socks instead. My feet are still cold.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow. My friend Rachael started a ladies book club called “Reading is Sexy” and tomorrow is the first night we meet. We’re all supposed to bring a list of books and a beverage to share. I’m so excited – this means I’ll be forced to read. I LOVE reading, and just don’t because I’m lazy and have too much stuff on my mind.

Back to work. Envision if you please little me, sitting at my desk, with a scarf, down parka and ski socks on. Welcome to my every day. :)
