This is me in Costa Rica, contemplating why it is I live a few hundred miles south of Canada.

So…I’ve been noticeably absent from blogging this week. I’m pretty sure that most people would agree that the week after you’re back from vacation is worthless. I have no motivation to get out of bed, work, unpack, do laundry, or eat normal meals. All I can do is sit and daydream about the beach and ocean, and waking up to the sounds of howler monkeys.

But alas, here I am at work. I was out yesterday due to a horrible, embarrassing health situation that only my mom, husband and BFF got to hear about. I’ll sum it up with the word prunes. And…I’m done.

Here’s what’s currently going on in my life. Trying to negotiate a plane ticket to visit Martini. Just made first mortgage payment. Anxiously awaiting the Twins home opener, of which I have tickets to two games (awesome). Going to an informational meeting on the Komen 3-Day walk tomorrow. Plans to unpack, do laundry, make spinach dip and mint brownies for a Superbowl party this weekend. I hate that it’s a leap year. Trying to figure out what I can spend my $80 in gift cards in at this store.

And…that’s about it. Oh! I read Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen while I was in Costa Rica. It’s a good book! Highly recommended, especially if you enjoy books about circus life. Similar and also recommended – Geek Love.

Hello! I have roughly 4 minutes to make some sort of post on here before I have a meeting and then go back home to sleep.

Costa Rica was, to say the least, awesome. We had so much fun. I got burned to a crisp (and had to admit to the husband that maybe my choice of SPF 4 on my first day was a bad one), eaten alive by mosquitoes, and generally had a great time. I’ll post a few pictures in the next couple of days.

Here’s a climate change wrap up.

We left on Sunday, 1/20 – the temperature at 3am was -11 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sunday 1/20 through Sunday 1/27 – temperature in Costa Rica – roughly 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
We got home at midnight Sunday 1/27 , and the temp was 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

I think my body is in a small state of shock. Peeling sunburn, bug bites, and a down parka and cashmere scarf? None of it adds up.

…when you wake up thinking it’s the weekend. I woke up at 6:30am when my alarm went off but was in such a deep slumber I had no recollection of shutting the thing off. All I thought was, “Thank god I can sleep in today – there’s no way I could get up now.” And, within a nanosecond – the flood of memory reminding me that it is, in fact Monday, and I DO have to be up AND go to work comes pouring in. Blast.

Walking to the train was ridiculous. I must have looked like a cross between Charlie Chaplain and Tony Little maneuvering the ice. (I only mention Tony Little since I had a ponytail and sort of making “Gazelle” movements.) Four steps outside of my house and I heard the downtown bound train pull up. Again…Monday craptasticness.

And now I’m at work. I ended up being here until almost 7pm on Friday because a server was taking a shit and I had no idea how to fix it. Good times. I have another eye doc appointment this afternoon anyway, so it’ll all even out in the end, timewise. I’m hoping the doc will give me the good news that I can start wearing my contacts again and stop being four-eyes for a while. I can’t imagine trying to enjoy myself in Costa Rica with my glasses on. Can you snorkel with glasses?

I saw Juno Saturday night with L. It was her fiance’s bachelor party that my husband was attending, so she stayed at my house for the night, and we caught a movie. If it’s not too cliche – “Run! Don’t walk – to see Juno!” SUCH a good movie. I want to see it again – with the husband. Ellen Page wins.

That’s all for now. It’s officially 30 degrees in this office and I must put my coat on for fear of hypothermia.

I only have a couple moments before a department meeting, but I thought I’d throw that out there.

I hope everyone had a safe & fun NYE. Mine consisted of Cheesecake Factory takeout, “28 Weeks Later” on pay per view, Dick Clark (who made me want to cry – I’m so proud of him!), champagne and Bubble Bobble (circa 1980s) on the Wii. All from the comfort of our new house. It was nice.

Yes, it’s 4:14pm on a day when I thought I’d be able to make a break for it at 3pm, and I’m STILL at work. Why do people send me work to do at 2:30pm when everyone knows this is a worthless work week? Ugh.

Anyway, I finally got it done, and I’m about to pack up and get on the train. My eyes hurt. I think working makes them worse. Here’s hoping I win the lotto on January 1st. Not that $1 million is enough to quit my job, but maybe enough go on a hiatus for a while.
